10 Things to Do in Wayne County

10 Fun Things to Do in Goldsboro and Beyond (From a Local Who Knows the Good Spots)

If you’re heading to Goldsboro—whether it’s for a quick visit, work trip, or a longer stay—you might be wondering what there is to do here.

Good news…you’ve got options.

Goldsboro isn’t a big city, but that’s part of the charm. Things are a little more laid back, a lot more local, and honestly you’ll find there’s plenty to keep you busy in Wayne County.

Here are some of our go-to spots and other recommendations. 👇

🚶‍♂️ Start with a stroll through downtown Goldsboro

If it’s your first time here, this is where I’d send you first. Take a walk down Center Street, shop, grab a coffee—this is the heart of the city. Want to know about events downtown, check out the DGDC website to find out we like to #doitdowntown.

🌲 Take a short drive to Cliffs of the Neuse State Park

This is one of those places people don’t expect to find around here. Cliffs of the Neuse State Park ha trails, river views, fresh air—it’s worth the quick drive. There’s even camping!

🏛️ Check out the Wayne County Museum

If you like a little history (or just want to understand the area better), the Wayne County Museum is a surprisingly good stop. There’s rotating exhibits and special events, so check their social media or give them a call.

🐖 Eat some real Eastern NC BBQ

Alright, this one’s non-negotiable. If you leave Goldsboro without trying local BBQ, we need to have a talk.

🛝 Spend some time at a city park

Easy, relaxing, and great if you just want to get outside for a bit. Good for families or a low-key afternoon. Two of our favorites are Herman Park (tennis and pickleball courts, an amazing playground and the Kiwanis train) and Stoney Creek Park (a greenway, walking and bike trails, disc golf, a small kids’ play area, and even a dog park). See a full list of parks and more here.

☕️ Find your go-to coffee spot

Every good stay needs a coffee routine. Goldsboro has a lot of solid spots where you can start your morning or get work done. You should never have to default to a chain with this many options. Even places in Wayne County, like Pikeville, Fremont, and Mount Olive have great options.

🛍️ Browse some local shops and boutiques

You’ll find some cool, locally owned spots if you take the time to look—great for gifts or just something new for yourself. There’s a concentrated area in downtown, but you can find great places to shop all over the county.

🥒 Take a quick trip to Mount Olive

Yes… the pickles are a thing. And yes… it’s actually worth checking out. But Mount Olive has so much more to offer.

🗝️ Visit Old Waynesborough Park

A quieter stop, but a meaningful one—especially if you’re into history. There are trails and a historic village with buildings that you can go inside. Stop by the visitor center to get more. Read more here.

🍜 Try something new for dinner

There’s more variety here than people expect. There are all types of cuisine, it just takes a quick search. Latin ✅ Mediterranean ✅ Asian ✅ Indian ✅ Caribbean ✅ American ✅✅
